I am in India and interested in doing nursing course? Pls tell me what degree I needed to be a nurse in US?
I want to do a nursing degree which can help me to be a nurse in USA. Previously I had done my under graduation in Commerce. In my town there is couple of hospital/Universities which offers General Nursing courses(which is of 3 years and after that I have to do 1 year job in same hospital). This hospital/Univesity is approoved by "Indian Nursing Council". Can somebody advice me what is the procedure of being a nurse in US but getting degree in India. Thanks

In the U.S. nurses must meet certain licensing requirements. If there is an area of the U.S. in which you wish to work you may want to contact the licensing agency in that particular state to check requirements. Another thing you could check are curriculum's of a few nursing colleges. There are two types of nursing degrees, LPN and RN. The LPN requires an Associates Degree or ASN and can be obtained in 2 years at some community colleges. The RN requires a BSN or Bachelors Degree in Nursing and takes 4 years to complete. When you check curriculum's you may want to email those schools and perhaps send the curriculum in India and compare the two programs. I don't recall having met any nurses from India but there are many doctors from your country working here. I am sure some of them came to the U.S. with their MD's.

University of Pennsylvania is a good nursing program, however I could attend a nursing program through my local hospital, and when I graduate, you and I would be making the same amount. Nursing is nursing. You won't learn anything there that I wouldn't learn. You will still learn the same skills and techniques, and be taught how to care for patients just the same. Universities don't know things that no one else knows. It's all the same. Those nursing programs also cost LOTS of money. You could easily get your RN through a local nursing school or hospital, then go to UPenn or Georgetown to get your RN-BSN and you would still have the credentials of graduating with your BSN from that school. So it doesn't matter. Good luck in your decision :)

How to validate subjects in colleges here in USA which were taken from another country.
How to validate subjects in colleges here in USA which were taken from another country.?
I would like to know what are the procedures of colleges and universities of USA in validating subjects that I have taken from another country particularly in the Philippines. I have finished up to 2nd yr of BS Nursing and I am about to take a healthcare related course here in the USA. Some of the subjects from the curriculum is the same as the subjects that I have taken back in the Philippines. So I would like to know if there is a possibility that my previous subjects be validated in the school that I am about to attend to

" is there a possibility that my previous subjects (from the Philippines will) be validated in the school that I am about to attend in the USA ?" There is a possibility, but no guarantee. Each college has its own procedures; they usually check with the prior university and then decide if all or part of your credits will transfer. Some schools do this by having you take something like the final exam for their courses to judge if you should get credit. Most colleges/universities will tell you their procedures without you having to enroll - so you could talk to several universities and go where you are likely to get the most credit from your previous courses.
