Help me, I want career guidance, please help me ...?
I was a student of Bachelors in Software Engineering back home, its obvious that my majors were Software Engineering. I moved here in USA about 6 months ago. I'm working overnights at Kohl's and make around $230 ($8.75/hour) a week which is barley enough to survive. Now I want to finish my degree from here but the hard part is, to be honest, I'm a below average student. I completed most of my courses with C, C+. I've completed all required subjects (Total of 138+ credit Hrs) but I couldn't complete the Degree Project (6 Credit Hrs) before coming here. I'm confused now, I want to finish my degree but don't know what to do, where to go. Currently I'm living in Rochester, MN. I want to complete some kind of certification to get a better job, one option is to complete a nursing diploma (3 months 6 credit hrs) so I would be able to apply in Mayo clinic to get a job that pays around $14/hour, but its totally different than my educational background. There is a huge IBM facility in Rochester "The Big Blue" but of course they require some degree. So please suggest me any short course that I can do and get a better job and eventually to able complete my SW Eng degree. I'm so much disappointed disheartened and depressed with my current life that you have NO IDEA, I want to be something but cant see a way. I was not serious about my studies in past that's why end up having pathetic CGPA. Please consider my situation, I want to change the course of my life. Take three minutes from your busy life and suggest me something. Tell me about some educational forums, web sites, short courses (like CCNA or MCSE I don't know if they worth having.) whatever you think is good for me. Thank You.

You apply to attend a university. You'll be a transfer student. You should complete your software engineering degree. It will take less time. But it will probably be easire for you to get a nursing job. But if you complete a nursing degree it will take longer to complete. Contact a couple of colleges/universities in your area. You can also apply to the University of Phoenix. They have online classes.

You know, it's pretty ironic how I've always to wanted to go to Ireland, but I could afford a passport. Sorry, but I can't really answer your question.

Pick a visa There are basically NINE ways that you can get a visa to live and work in the US: (1) Marriage (or engagement in anticipation of marriage) to a US citizen. (2) You have skills that are in short supply in the US e.g. scientific or medical training. A degree is normally a must. Or you have superior specialist skills with at least 12 years experience. (H visas) (3) You have an Employer who is willing to transfer you - but even the employer has to make a good case for you - so you have to be a manager unless you fall under category (2) above.(L visas) (4) You may get a Green card in the diversity lottery (UK citizens, except N.Ireland, are not generally eligible unless you, your spouse or parents were born abroad or held a different citizenship. (5)You own or buy business (does not get you permanent resident status i.e. no green card)You must be a national of a qualifying Treaty countries. The business must have a minimum value of around $150k (more the better) bearing in mind you will need somewhere to live and with any startup business you will need at least 2 years living money as back up. So a figure of $350k would be a nearer minimum (E-2 visas) (6)You are an "investor" i.e. you have at least US $1m in assets to bring with you. half of that in a few areas. And your background will be investigated to the hilt. (EB-5 visas) (7)You have a close relative (mother, father, brother, sister and no further) who is an US citizen who would sponsor you, approx time this take 2-12 years? (8.The R1 visa is available to foreign members of religious denominations, having bona fide non-profit religious organizations in the U.S., for entering the U.S. to carry on the activities of a minister or religious worker as a profession, occupation or vocation (9)THE UNUSUAL You are in a position to claim refugee status/political asylum. or You get a member of Congress to sponsor a private bill with legislation that applies just to you. The S visa issued to persons who assist US law enforcement to investigate and prosecute crimes and terrorist activities such as money laundering and organized crime Recruitment agent will not take you seriously if you are not already in the US. Writing for jobs is really a waste of time; likewise US employers have no idea what foreign qualification are or mean (except Degrees) it may pay you to get your qualification translated into a US equivalent, there are Companies that do this (www.wes.org) .. But if you are getting a visa under (2) above then you need a job offer before you can get the visa. Your Employer will be your sponsor this will cost them upward of $5k. So you can see you have to be offering something really special to get considered They may also have to prove to the Dept of labor that there is no American who can do the job if the position is to be permanent ©

green card lottery is the best bet. There are not many in demand jobs anymore as there is huge unemployment.
2 :
Your best chance is to learn Spanish and pretend to be a Mexican, then if you commmit a crime no one can check your ID. But seriously, IT is a good field. I would say anything in Engineering would be the best. Obviously you know that it helps to get into a field that gives away a lot of H1B visas. If you are good at Math and get a degree in that, it helps as well. Just don't get an Art or Philosophy degree, or a Finance degree. And as the first answer mentioned, there is the Green Card Lottery. You can apply for it every year if you want, but you just missed the cutoff for this year's process.

Can you help me with this doubt
Can you help me with this doubt?
Hi: I came from Nicaragua and we have different education system than USA does. But, everything that I did in 5 years in my last High school (in my country) was equal to 1.40 GPA...... When I came, I met the requirements to become a Senior... So, I began to attend to the high school like Senior in 2009. I had to go to the high school to improve my GPA in 2009..... I got really good grades, I just got 3-C, 3 - A, and 2-B , 1 - B-. Now my GPA is 1.80.... I DON"T KNOW WHY!.... I found out that my GPA was going to be something like 2.10 in this year with those grades I got. I will attend again to the High school to get better GPA.... But, I will not have good GPA to attend to any college and my dream is to become a nurse..... So, I decided to go to the military because they will pay my education..... but..... my GPA will not be enough to get in to college..... So, the next question is: Does the military teach you nursing without attending to any college to become a certificated nurse in their own college? What can I do to get my degree through the military? Now I have to decide what to do with my life.... I don't want to work at Honda making car for all my life!... I want to get my degree, master and PHD. PS: I am so sorry for my English.... My national language is Spanish.... Have a nice day :)

With a situation like yours I'm not quite sure if military is your best bet. There are many nursing schools here in the U.S that do not even require a high school education. In fact many colleges allow enrollment without high school diploma, some just a GED. No the military is not a college, although they have college programs for active duty personnel. I am not 100% sure about your situation but the military is a little more competitive than some nursing schools and with your nationality that might be a problem. Talk to a recruiter dont take my word for it -Good luck to you.

Would Amercans take a job offer for $240,000/year now
Would Amercans take a job offer for $240,000/year now?
Despite the bad economy, there are certain USA employers in the energy and health sectors and nursing that are UNABLE to fill the job openings they need. So one group is offering $240,000 per year salary to any person they can find, even if they don't necessarily meet the training qualifications. Still, they are unable to get enough resumes to fill the spot. How likely would you apply for this kind of position? All you need is some degree from any university and some city planning experience. According to this article I just read. How likely would you apply? The job hours are like 9 to 5, Mon.-Friday? And it's a real struggle for these employers, they just CANNOT seem to fill their openings. If only there was more supply of applicants. A lot of these companies are in energy and health services All you need is a 2-year college degree, anything, why are people so afraid to apply

thats becasue there firing people they don't need, and closing departments that they do not deem important.
2 :
That is getting pretty close to the $250000 a year where the gov considers you rich and steals your money for the poor. With my wife working we would really get bent over on that deal. I am turning the job down as well!

Am I any less of a Doctor than his Mom
Am I any less of a Doctor than his Mom?
My fiance's Mother graduated from a 6-year Dental school in Bolivia, South America. She can't practice here, legally, until she does a 2-year rotation at a hospital. Anyway...her husband , my guy's father, calls her Doctorita (spanish) and everyone else sort of follows and calls her Doctor Maria. I graduated, recently, from a nursing program...went for 8 years, and I have my DNP degree...it's called a Doctor of Nursing. So people...congratulated me..and now lovingly call me Doctor Janet. I never required that they do so...nor did I make a big stink about it. They can call me nurse or whatever...even though, I can't lie..it feels kind of nice to be recognized for my hard work. My husband's mother doesn't really seem to think I qualify for that title. She hasn't said it outright..but subtly expresses it...it shows. Am I any less of a Doctor than her? I realize she went to Dental school for 6 years...but I went to school for 8 years here at a great USA institute..and I don't feel like I should feel lesser than any Dentist, Pharmacist, or anyone else with a PhD. Is it silly? Is she right? I never asked to be called a Doctor..but I don't understand why it bothers her so much. She went to Dental school for 6 years and I went to school up here for 8 years..and they were 8 hard, long, years. I don't ever ask people to call me a Doctor..but his Mom has always been competitive and I'm tired of being put down. I'm not going to say anything to her..just curious..that's all.

Realistically, you're NOT a doctor and instead you're a nurse (albeit a highspeed one). Frankly, trying to put yourself on par with your elders is pretty much a pointless endeavor. And, on top of all that, all of us "regular people" out there - that put in many hard years of our own getting college degrees, and nearly as much education (lifetime-wise as any of you docs) - find it a bit pompous that any of you insist on being address Doctor or Doctorita or whatever.
2 :
You are NOT a doctor. You have a doctorate. Those are NOT the same thing. And you cannot do the same advanced work a dentist or pharmacist does. With that said, Forget about her and get your congrats. Soon she will be racking in bigger bucks and doing more work anyway.
3 :
You aren't a medical doctor, and she actually is, and that's the difference. And doctors really do see a huge difference between 1) nurses and doctors and 2) doctorates and MDs/DDSs. As does society. In common language in the US, a "doctor" is only a medical doctor. You are a nurse practitioner, which is wonderful and should be celebrated, but you're not a doctor. Based on all that, you can see that no, she doesn't think you're a doctor and no, she probably doesn't really like you being called one and yes, she does feel you are less of a doctor than she is because yes, you are. Medically, you are not a doctor. Does that mean you shouldn't be proud? No. Does that mean that the work you do as an NP isn't valuable? Absolutely not! But medically, you can't be called a "doctor", and she knows that. Worse, she's a doctor, but can't practice, and that probably hurts her, so she's sensitive about all this.

Becoming a midwife
Becoming a midwife?
I would like to become a midwife, and I was wondering if someone could help me out with something. I want to start out being an LPN and then move on from there. My question is, do I have to get my Bachelor's in nursing before applying to a midwife program or will and Associate's degree (RN) work? Also, are there any websites that have information on obtaining this degree, and information about schools that offer it in the USA.

Midwife is a MSN degree. To safe time.... you should start with a BA in Nursing and move into MSN afterwards. If you choose the LPN (2yr program) route, you will need an additional 4 yrs for BA and 2yrs (MSN) to complete your degree. You can find all these information online via google...... just search for "Master of Science Nursing Midwifery".
2 :
if you want to be certified nurse midwife you will have to get a bachelors in nursing first. then you'll have to take masters program in midwifery.

I really am not sure but here goes, i go to college am in my 2nd yr of 4yr degree am a girl of19yrs and this guy same age whose my classmate, friend, crew member even drives in my car with me to and from school, are very much secretly really liking each other, almost crazy in love. we are both of vastly different lives and worlds. am of indian descent more up class chick, i drive run my own small business with help of my parents, i got 1 younger sis, my dad has a company and mom is a director in another owned by she and her eight siblings and he is a gangster of african decent he has good family upbringing his dad is a cop of high ranking and his mom is in usa is a nurse they are separated though and he has an older brother and younger sister too. we started admiring each other in the last semester of our 1st yr. our crew leader saw and even pushed it. we started as good friends and kept our ways out of notice publicly and enjoy schooling just fine. we communicate very well and started to enjoy each other via messages and calls we spoke of everything for hours each day. we have been out on simple dates as well even during summer breaks for 4months i traveled and we spoke well just the same. we expressed our liking and deep thoughts and sex wasn't an agenda as he speaks of respect for me seeing i am pure. yet twist to this is i have never been in full serious relationship yet i am a good counselor n listener for my friends. yet he at the time was in one, which begun from his younger days as a kid. he told me of the girl and i even met her mutually. he even helped her apply to our college and she got in. yet during the summer holidays he and her had a serious break down when her girlfriends confessed to him where in she gave up her innocence to his best friend. luckily i had returned home i spent the entire next 2 days and nights with his head on my shoulders crying. this begun a series of events i been through with him.. alot of bad yet i stuck n it all. with out regrets. after summer we restarted school and he and i kicked off our growth from friendship to a relationship. we have enjoyed our time so far together. since our serious ways have begun we have only kissed like on cheeks, as we speak taking it slow. and he tells me am an apple of his eyes and all the beauty i guy tells a girl, he treats me very gentle and does alot of sweet things he doesn't seem to handle other girls like classmates so. even speaks properly to me and no gangster ways basically when it comes to me. i know his secrets and desires, weakness and fears.as he pleads his love to me even tells me that since we met i have changed him alot so does our crew members, and simple things i do make him happy. but here is a twist again, girl number one had a follow up chick whom he has sex with which he had in the background all along from first girl days. and i knew too. here is a scenario for 2 nights we had a 2 different birthday parties for 2 classmates back to back. # 1 i went with him as his date and # 2 he brought the follow up chick seeing she over heard him at his home community tellin his friends he was going to attend the party and i knew this too. he even rented a car as not to take her in mine. next morning he begged my forgiveness kinda stupid but i said fine. we then departed on christmas break, he went to visit grandparents in another state and i traveled he and i continued well. 2 weeks after returning from holidays to school he tells me the follow up girl got a tattoo with his name on he back. he is totally furious. they kind Split as he says he is trapped n doesn't know how to leave if he does he might get killed by her or the gangsters he rolls with only option is finish degree school and go to his mother in the usa to live and work and i go with him seeing i live there alot too, he and i are still i our relationship during all this and i am being a strong girl in this whole ordeal. he continues to plead his love. we never agrue and if we do he never wants to sleep til we sort it out. we go places yet only thing only our crew knows of our relationship now as we both hate attention of crowds imagine this he falls ill and missed school a few days the follow up girl who sleeps with him and ask him for moneydidn'tt care i saw it fit to go out of my love leave school early buys his favorite food takes it to him takes him to the doctor then buys his medicine, this is just one out of many i do for him. he wouldn't go to bed kept calling to say his love i had to turn off my phone n tell him to go bed. i disobeyed my mom when i decided to go with him i cant tell her the struggles i face the pain n hurt i experience due to the love i have for him. i regret none of it though. Yet all in all am confused i don't know what to do cut it off or continue? please give me your advice or help or encouragement !! thanks in advance

Would you like to join the lottery
Would you like to join the lottery?
From today on also in the UAE will be possible what's common in the USA since a couple years already. Thousands of work visas for certain fields (i. e .IT professionals, nurses, etc.) will be giving out through a "lottery". Means, it doesn't matter no more what's your nationality, degree, etc, you just have to get lucky to be drawn. This visa "lottery" will take effect from today. Will you join?

thats how i got my residence to get into the usa. My mother apply for the lottery and we won it 4 yrs ago.

it is a luck! now a days, the many people out of there jobs, so it is a not bad idea, but any way i believe, if you are not enough qualified and you had a chance to be in draw, any time you might be jobless. not much i trust to the lotteries or to any type of gambling, coz myself i had been never won anything, so for sure i would need to find harder way. Actually i like this question.

Ha ha ha friend, look in your mail box, your ticket is also there, and your flight is tonight,so get ready.Have nice flight.Wish you nice day.
5 :
I've already worked in UAE for 3 years, no thanks. I don't feel like spending another 3 years dealing with prostitutes on every street corner, glue sniffing Indians and gay Emrati men offering me money to be gay with them.
6 :
Any scheme for those who lost their jobs during this month or are already in the grace period and are still unsuccessful in finding a new job????
7 :
H, do you have any links for further info on this? The company i am working for brings us in on Mission Visa's. These are 90 days, then we have to fly home, await the next being issued, and fly back. I assume these are residents visa's, so they last 3 years? I would join, that way i could be tax exempt in the UK, the current way its working, if i spend more than 90 days in the UK in any tax year (april - april) i am subject to all of the tax on my earnings. Also it makes getting a phone line possible in our apartment, the ability to trade my english driving licence for a UAE one. I would not have to go for a medical every 3 months that way too, at 250dhs a time its not the cheapest thing in the world!
8 :
how to join/participate????????????????????
9 :
April fool ??
10 :
by whom? none can live for in the UAE with out a job. so are they offering jobs? and they pick people by lottery? that's bad, especially if you are talking about professionals required. that's complete craziness. imagine being treated by doctor who got the job by lottery! he might be a the worse ever, yet he must get a job cause he won it?!

How can we get money for our education?? Are there any donatur for us?
My sister and I have a really big problem. She and I have already thought about it for several weeks but can't find the solution. Both of us are international student in USA. She is taking nursing program as her major, and I still study in language institude.Every semester my sister can get 3.65-4.00 for her final grade. Because she studies at college, she has to move to university in order to get bachelor degree. The problem is,my parents dont have enought money for her to study in university. If my parents could pay her education in university, how about me?? Should I back to my country althought I really want study in USA?? Are there any solutions for us??

www.fafsa.ed.gov That is the financial aid website.

definately apply for financial aid at fafsa.org, but also check out fastweb.com. This is a great place that will send you information on scholarships that are geared towards your majors. Also, for your sister, if she starts going around to the local hospitals in her area and ask about signing bonus's. It's not alot, but it is something. There is also the possibility of student loans. I realize that this is not a road most people want to go down, but if your serious about your education, it's something to consider. You can speak to your counselors at the colleges you are currently attending, or will be attending for more information also. Definately, go speak with their financial aid counselors!!!

Degrees of graduation for a nurse
Degrees of graduation for a nurse...?
I'm portuguese and I'm taking a 4year degree to become a Nurse. Here in Portugal it's called "licenciatura", it's recognized in all Europe, but I want to work one day in USA and I don't know at which degree it's compared there... Could u help me? Do u know any nurse who came from Europe? Thanks!

The licenciatura degree awarded in Portugal is roughly equivalent to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree awarded in the US. When applying for licensure in the US, they will have you submit your transcripts, and will evaluate them for adequacy, prior to allowing you to take the licensure examinations in the US. Good Luck, and welcome!

not many hospitals will want to pay out that sort of money that an H will cost them
2 :
Information on H-1 status here. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=73566811264a3210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=73566811264a3210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD
3 :
H1 is only a temporary visa and you to have an enployer that will sponsor you and the job has to be in an area where there is a shortage. American nurses, especially the new grads are having trouble finding work so the chances you would find an employer that would sponsor an H1 is pretty slim. H1 visas are also very hard to get approval for.

How to become a midwife or doula
How to become a midwife or doula?
I already have a bachelors degree in elementary education. I am interested in a job that would be able to place me in the delivery room at a hospital. I love the idea of being there when a child would come into this world. Since I already have a degree (even though its not a nursing or science degree), what would be the process to become a midwife, doula, or any profession that would be in the delivery room? Grades are not a problem, Im not afraid of a challenge. I graduated with a 3.96 GPA....so just tell me what my options in the USA for a profession like this. (To be specific, I live in PA) Wow Jill, thank you for that information! Do you happen to know how much money a labor and delivery nurse would make? Also, I would just get a RN and hope for a job in the delivery room, or would I concentrate in something to assure that? Would an associates degree allow me to be a labor and delivery nurse, or only a bachelors? The bachelors wouldnt take me much longer, but it is more expensive.

A doula is a labor support person. You can obtain certification through Doulas of North America (DONA) - see their website for details. There is no degree or anything you need to earn, just read their curriculum, take a two day seminar, then attend a certain number of births under the supervision of another doula. Your job is simply to support the laboring woman and help her articulate her needs to the medical staff, but you are not there to offer your input on what she should do, what choices she should make, or offer medical advice. You could go to nursing school and become a labor & delivery nurse. You need an RN license to do that. Since you hold a previous BS / BA you could get into an "accelerated BSN" or "post baccalaureate BSN" program and have your degree / license in as little as 18-24 months. No additional training is required, you get some education on maternal-newborn nursing in your nursing program, but then most of the training comes directly from the hospital during your orientation. Your role is both medical and supportive in nature. Your responsibilities are to keep the mother and baby safe and healthy. You essentially manage the whole laboring process by communicating with the doctor, doing fetal monitoring, making frequent assessments, keeping mother comfortable, providing a huge amount of education on the labor and birth process and delivery options, etc. You are present for the delivery and are responsible for stabilizing the mother and newborn immediately after delivery, which could mean performing neonatal resuscitation on a newborn in distress, or managing a severe maternal hemorrhage, etc. To be a Certified Nurse Midwife, you currently need a Master's Degree in Nursing, but soon it is changing over to needing a Doctorate of Nursing Practice. So that means extensive grad school after you've had at least a year working as a regular L&D RN. As a CNM you provide primary care in OB clinics, seeing patients for prenatal care as well as regular gyne-health for non-pregnant women. You attend deliveries at hospitals or licensed birth centers but you cannot attend home deliveries because of the strict regulations and scope of practice of nurses / midwives in most states. You cannot perform surgeries like c-sections or tubal ligations, etc. **Edited to add: There is nothing you can really do to assure yourself a job in L&D. L&D can sometimes be a hard specialty to get into, especially as a new graduate RN. You could see if you could get a summer nursing internship which is done the summer before your last year of nursing school, and try to get into an OB unit, which might help getting a job later. Otherwise many RNs who want to get into OB / L&D need to work in some other area, like regular medical / surgical units to gain some experience before they will be considered for an L&D position. This is what I had to do. I hated every minute of working in cardiac med/surg, but I knew it was a means to an end and I would get into L&D eventually if I was persistent. You can work in L&D with only an Associate's Degree in Nursing. I would still strongly encourage you to find an accelerated BSN because you'd be in school for the same amount of time as if you went through an ADN program, so you might as well have the higher degree in the end. Some hospitals do say in their job ads that they do prefer BSN grads, but don't let that stop you from applying if you only have the ADN, they can't always hold out for a BSN grad. And as for salary, the specialty you work in within a hospital does not affect your salary, hospital based RN salaries are based on your years of experience in the profession. An L&D RN is not worth more or less than an OR or ER or med/surg or psych RN. New grad wages might be anywhere from $20-$35 per hour, depending on where you work and what shift you work (night shift pays differentials of sometimes up to 5-7 dollars more per hour in some cases.) Full benefits packages to hospital nurses are often offered to part time nurses, my hospital offers it for half-time status (20 hrs per week).

Jill gave you excellent information. I do not know the legal status of non-nurse midwives in Pennsylvania, but given the large amount of Amish that reside there and give birth at home, being a Certified Professional Midwife might be something to consider, as well. You can find out more information on training and education for midwives at www.mana.org (Midwives Alliance of North America) and www.meacschools.org (Midwifery Education Accreditation Council). Also, "Midwifery Today", a professional journal for all midwives, has a great set of books/journals you can get for aspiring midwives that put all educational paths in perspective for you. Best wishes!

Is it OK to start a GF/BF relationship overseas? (Philippians)
Is it OK to start a GF/BF relationship overseas? (Philippians)?
Hey everyone, I met a girl on a online dating site and I have known her since March. We haven't been exactly talking to each other day by day, sometimes it's because we are busy, but mostly it's because we are an 8 hour difference. You can imagine, I hope. But still, I try my best to talk with her when I can. I really like her a lot. She's pretty, smart, and types English very well. Plus she has college degree in nursing, which is a big plus. She is 23. I'm 20. I started out wanting just to be friends from this site, but I somehow feel different, like I, "like like" her. Here's my issues. She lives in the the Philippians and I'm in the USA. Is it worth (and I mean that word "worth" to the up-most respect here, I'm not using it as a sarcasm) starting a relationship with her? I have heard in the past, like 10,15 years ago, that long distance relationships don't really work out. But I've done my research here on Yahoo Answers and the answers are now in favor of those who experienced it, like it is more than possible. (Personally, I believe people today are willing to do more crazier stuff now then before). I need answers to this question. Another issue I have with her is response time. It seems kinda slow for me. Like weekly or every few days. But then I'm thinking that this will all change once she realizes that this communication between us will have to increase. Still, this is all speculation. Does anyone with experience know if this will happen, the increase of response time? Or not? I'm not sure if Filipina ladies are different with response time then American ladies, but. OK! So does anyone have answers to my questions? And can you please answer the question, not go off into something that doesn't pertain to the topic, please? This is specifically for those who have that bad habit. Also info on what expect from a Filipina relationship is a big bonus for me. Thank you all for taking the time to read my question.

Yes it is. You can make anything work if you put your mind to it. Ignore what everyone else says. Its not their business. Try talking to each other more like online, phone, by webcam etc. Maybe plan a meeting to meet each other one day. Good luck

Nothing wrong with making friends. Be honest and most of all can support yourself.

Good salary? Average person? Leeds Uk, or America
Good salary? Average person? Leeds Uk, or America?
Im moving to Leeds in a few months in order to attend Leeds University. I lived there a few years back with my family and liked it alot there and am considering staying there even after school. Im getting ready to finish getting my Bachelors degree in nursing and become a registered nurse. My question is, would about 50,000 be a good enough salary to live as a single person in Leeds? I live a pretty basic lifestyle nothing flashy. What would I need to be making to live confortably in Leeds in a basic apartment? What about in the USA say, Colorado? Thanks in advanced!

If you're on about 50,00 pounds sterling then Leeds is about your best bet. I've lived and worked in the States the cost of living is frightful and their public health care non existent.

It looks very good (be sure to bold headings, of course)! You have all the necessary information and from an employer's point of view, your experience looks good. I would use some caution posting personal information like this online in such a public forum because of the unfortunate fact that some people collect information like this for less than helpful purposes! You might have already considered that.

It looks fine, but be warned that putting that much personal information on a website (Y!A) can be really dangerous. Good luck in finding the job of your dreams!

Married folks please answer!! desperately need advice
Married folks please answer!! desperately need advice?
I have been thinking lately to give up everything and just move in again with my hubby. He lives in Australia and currently I am here in USA. Almost 2 years ago I moved to Australia from US just to be with my hubby. He prefers Australia than US and I have the opposite view on this. I love US and it just feels like HOME which I never thought I would have to leave to any circumstances. Now here is the other part which always stops me leaving US. He's very unstable there, has over 80k bank loans ( the loans weren't for us, he took it before we got married for his parents and I didn't know until we got married ) also he didn't finish College yet and no he's not a teenager. He's a 30 years old man. He's also not physically fit have back pain issues which cause problems at work. If I go back my study will be hanged for few years. I am currently doing my Bachelor's degree on Nursing and will be finish with in 2 years. We are almost close to divorce cause of this issues we been facing for last 2 years. Both of us is tired and want a decision asap. It freaks me out to even think about getting a divorce but also in other hand it scares me what if I can't finish my study and get a better job to provide ourselves. I am just tired of all this and lately I am thinking about giving up everything and just go to him. And whatever is on fate will happen. I am still not sure if I should take the risk again because the first time I moved in with him we barely could afford the household expenses. And I had to come back to US to get my degree done. Please no rude comments. I am going through a very rough time. I will really appreciate all your input on this. Am I taking the right decision? Please give me some opinions.

If I'm not mistaken, you posted this same question not long ago, you are the one that his family and yours are all here in the United States. You received my responses as to his selfishness, thinking only about him. Be very careful, love is not about giving up what you treasure the most, but share that treasure with the one you love.
2 :
why is he 30 and not married and stable? He is not going to move and if he is THAT old and unstable, that is a red flag, you should not have married him to begin with. Finish your education and tell him he has that much time to get established before you'll consider moving back.

Dear Angel, I read everything you mention and if you put on a list the pros and cons between going to Australia or stay in US.....as you can see your list is big for the cons to go to Australia. As you mention staying in US you will have an education BA in nursing! Sounds like there is too much negativity by you leaving US, if he really loves you he can wait two more years until your done with your degree. That's what's marriage is for to support each other. It's selshish of your hiusband to put pressure on you and make you choose him or nothing! Wish you tge best of the luck to finish your degree!

I know how you feel, my dear. If two people cannot work together on a problem, then that relationship is doomed. It takes TWO to work on problems. If your husband is not willing to consider your needs, or refuses to meet you halfway, or refuses to discuss the issues without continually defending himself, thinking he is right and you are wrong.......well then my dear, you do not have a marriage. It would be much better to keep your education goals in the forefront of your mind and heart, finish you education, and try to forget him. A man who will not work with his mate on issues, but always wants his own way, and refuses to change is selfish, and does not really love his wife. If he loved her he would be far different.

Bachelors in Physical Therapy? Accepted in USA
Bachelors in Physical Therapy? Accepted in USA?
I am planning on studying Physical Therapy in the Philippines and then going to America to get a job. As far as I know, you need MASTERS degree to be a Physical Therapist in America. Does that affect students who graduate from the Philippines? Meaning, would it still be possible to get a license to work in America even if you only got a Bachelors degree.. In short, will my Bachelors degree be permitted license to work in America. Or would it be utterly useless? Someone Might mention "exam, test" etc. I was also wondering which ones would be necessary, aside from passing the board exam from the Philippines. What other exams are necessary for getting a license to work here as a Physical Therapist. (Links would help too please) I am going by guesses right now, since I know Nurses in the Philippines need to pass Board Exam, and then take CGFNS or NCLEX before they can work in America. Thank you all for your help and Knowledge. oh boy! so 5 years in the philippines to get a bachelors then I still need to take a masters for.. say 2 -3 more years?? whaaaaa!!!!!! I already have a bachelors in video game art and design from the USA

Canada has a particularly open immigration system. You might see if you qualify to immigrate in the Skilled Worker class. With your nursing degree, you could probably find a job to sponsor you. Canada has a huge diversity of languages and people. It could be very promising.
2 :
return to your country of origin, this will allow you to use your skills to better your own country rather than imposing yourself on another country.
3 :
Try Mexico. You would always sneak back in if you change your mind. The new hotspot is Canada, as that border is undefended
4 :
Denmark happiest country in the world.
5 :
you will NOT likely be permitted to live in any other country - they dont accept people who have already proven that they quite willing to break the rules. please do NOT apply to Canada. You will most likely be denied. what is it men and their ARROGANCE about being handsome? that scores NO points with any immigration dept,
6 :
I personally think that you are really trying to say, is you have sucked off the USA all you can and then got you got caught being there illegally. Now you want to go suck off another country. Probably never worked a day in your life. And after all that, you bad mouth the country. Just goes to show what kind of sleaze ball you really are.
7 :
Australia is the only western country which still has a growing economy at +0.4%¹, whereas all other western countries are hit much harder with the recession². Nursing jobs are advertised all over³. Plus, we have cool accents (though perhaps not as cool as British). You'll probably fit right in because I'm not sure if everyone here can spell, too.

You have to leave. You can apply at a school as a foreign student but you would still have to leave and if approved you could then come back.
2 :
leave apply if you then qualify reenter ,, most schools will require upfront student tuition's that can be in the thousands stay out of visa status (illegal ) and you will be deported with 10 yrs ban

N or BSN
N or BSN????????????????????
I am deciding whether to get an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. I am an international student in the USA. I thought of getting my RN(Registered Nurse) license, and changing my visa to a working visa. But before that I would still have to get a J1 waiver. Do you think I have better chances with a BSN Degree? Or would Associate's work also? MUST??? I hope you are sure about it, cos I will rely on the info you are giving me. And then another question. Will I be considered for H1B??? I thought there is something called H1C for nursing personnel? No? What do you mean by I can't change my F-1 visa to H1B while being in the States? That's the first time I've heard that :O

You MUST have a BSN. An RN with an AS is not enough for you to get an H1B.
2 :
To be petitioned by US Employer as eligible for H1B visa, the minimum education is bachelor's degree. H1C has been not renewed after it expired in Dec. 2009.
3 :
H1B I believe is for BSNs with a specialty and experience. As a new grad you would have to return home after passing the NCLEX and apply for a work visa. Due to retrogression you would be looking at a wait of several years. You cannot change what type of visa you are on while still in the country. Check out the International Forum @ allnurses.com.

What is the purnishment in court for communicating treat and second degree tresspass
What is the purnishment in court for communicating treat and second degree tresspass?
Why is the justice system so corrupt?. I burst into tears in court when a group of police men gave false witnesses against me. Can money buy off a judge, lawyers, and police men in USA?These are the people that are surpose to protect the people. "I am not guilty of telling my ex-friend that "I will kill him" Two big coorperations I am trying to expose are using him to drive me away from Winston Salem , they want to give me a criminal record that will destroy my education. Communicating treat is a criminal record and I can never get my BSN in nursing . They bought my ex-boyfriend off with money, he raped me and went to court and tell lies about me. I am writing a book about these cooperations because I am a poor student and can not fight them in court. my only chance is to write a book about the discrimination against poor patients at the hospital where I work. I want to know what is the purnishment I will get if I pleade guilty. Dont tell me not to because I am going to , and I am telling the court appointed lawyer to back off.. My goal is to plead guilty on the 30th even though I never said those words. Society dont care about the poor, especially a poor student who is trying so hard to get an education.I rather be in jail and write my book than to live in this corrupt society. Will they send me to jail if I plead guilty? I know nothing about the law system. Please lawyers help in explaining my purnishment to me..

What was the treat? Next time offer chocolate, it's nearly universally enjoyed. Also, you're paranoid or slow. Assuming you weren't suffering of diarrhea of the mouth and this happened, to receive a good answer you would need to include the state this occurred in and your criminal record.

UK citizen wants to work in the USA...what profession should I go inn
UK citizen wants to work in the USA...what profession should I go inn?
Hi I would like to move to US for a lengthy period of time eventually residing there :) however I know this is very difficult to do :/.......Anyway I always had the idea that I would go in to teaching and when I graduate I can go straight over as it is classed as a profession, I now realised it is a lot more complicated than it sounds..... What professions are wanted out there..what field should I go in to, I don't mind putting the effort/studying in if it means I can get to my dream. btw. although I've got a degree (in Sports Studies) im not the brightest so please don't put nursing and doctors thanks for reading

Sorry, but we DO need doctors (GPs and OB-GYNs) especially; engineers, computer programmers, etc. The rest we grow ourselves. Just sayin'
2 :
Let's run down your qualifications and reasoning one more time: 1. You think it would be good to live in the USA 2. You have no expertise in any area outside of sports. 3. You think that being a teacher will get you here, but you don't know what you would teach, or have any particular passion for a subject or a technical skill. 4. You admit to not being the brightest of minds. Geez - You'd fit right in. Good luck!
3 :
How about you get into a profession that's slowly shipping its workers overseas to the UK. Then you can go right back where you came from and quit doing your part to over-inflate the population in my country...... prick.....
4 :
Nursing is absolutely in demand........or any other Degree in the medical field requiring a bachelor's for that matter.
5 :

UK student thinking about starting college in the USA
UK student thinking about starting college in the USA?
I'm a 16-year-old student and I am about to leave compulsory education in the UK in May 2011. I will leave with several qualifications that are called GCSE's. I then hope to go to a Sixth Form Centre in September 2011 to gain my A-Level qualifications. This is a two year course. Normally, after you leave sixth form at age 18, you would go to university or get a job. I want to go to university, but not in the UK. I hope to study nursing in Tampa, Florida. I have looked on the college/university websites and as I am not from the USA this just confuses me. I was also wondering if there is any help with the fees. In the UK we have any medical degrees funded by the national health service. Obviously, due to the new government in place, this may change. I was wondering if anyone can give me any information regarding colleges/universities in Tampa as it would be a lot of help. Any useful links would be helpful, but please understand that I am from the UK and know nothing about the USA education system. Many thanks in advance, Lauren.

Start college in USA which you need to pay thousands for....or go to college for free in UK. I know which one I would choose.
2 :
college is expensive here. We don't have government programs to pay for medical schooling. and out of country tuition would be insanely high. If you plan on going to school here and then having a career in UK I would skip the USA all together. Schooling in UK for a career in UK is a smart idea. Schooling in USA for a career in UK doesn't make sense.
3 :
As you are 18 you are the normal age when students start college, we use the words college and university pretty much interchangeably in the US. I do not know if any of your studies would transfer into any units in the US university system so lets just assume they do not. To get a Medical Degree in the US, you would need to go to a 4 year university where you can major in anything, but you must take what are called Pre-Med subjects to get into Medical School (you can google these requirements). You would need a 3.5+ Grade Point Average on these plus an excellent score on a test called the MCAT to get into Med School. You would go to Med School for 4 years and then do one year of internship. If you want to specialize you would do 3 more years of residency in your specialty. You would not receive any help from the US government. You would be paid during your residency, but not much. Most doctors in the US graduate with $200,000 in debt.
4 :
If I were you (and this is just my personal opinion) I would take advantage of the free education offered to you there while it lasts! I am a college student in the U.S. right now and not only is paying for school EXPENSIVE, but it is very hard to try to work full time to make money for cost of living) and go to school. If you are wanting to come and live in the U.S. you could always move here after you have completed school. Then you would have already learned your skill and this would make it easier for you to find a job here and help get you on your feet. Honestly, the fact that it doesn’t cost anything to go to school in the UK almost has me considering moving there! Hope this helps!

Does the Air Force or Navy accept a foreign bachelor degree
Does the Air Force or Navy accept a foreign bachelor degree?
Hi: For me is really is hard to get into a college because my GPA is 1.94 and really sucks. I got that GPA when I came to USA and began to study again in the HS like a transfer student. We have a different education system and when I came, all my good grades (for us) changed from good to bad!. I want to become a nurse BUT again, nobody will accept me and my father does not want to help me to go to the college.... He will kick me out from the house in 2012 and I have decided to repeat my senior year to improve my GPA.... Therefore i just have 2 years more. I have decided to go to the Navy or Air Force but again, is 90% impossible to be accepted in a college. In my country we have 2 university "accredited" by USA. So, If I comeback to my country, I get my bachelor degree and join to the military.... Do they accept me my foreign bachelor degree? Thank you

not likely. all foerign degrees must be vetted by a US accredited college and most will NOT grant degrees based on classes taken outside of the US. at most you might get a few crediots but certainly not enough to be considered a Bachelor;s degree in the US also if you are not a US citizen you may not be a Nurse. Only US BSN degrees are accepted to be eligible to seek a commission as a nurse. you will ahve to go to a local communtiy collge first to bring yoru GPA up high enough to have a remote shot at being accepted to Nursing school.

Jobs that would allow for US relocation
Jobs that would allow for US relocation?
I am looking into university degrees in Australia (I am an Aussie citizen) at the moment and there are several fields I am interested in. I want to move to the US or Canada within a few years after graduating with a degree. What jobs/career fields would offer a high chance of the possibility of relocating to one of these two countries? I am aware that there are job opportunities through agencies for nursing that can help you gain employment in the USA and Canada, but are there other agencies/opportunities that would provide employment like this? Thanks

Physicians, surgeons, RN (4 year degree nurses), some engineers in mechanical design, electronics, and software engineering, and a very few other professions would be the most likely choices to be able to get a U.S. work visa, an arduous and expensive effort which you must persuade a potential employer to do on your behalf. Another means is to work for a multi-national company which relocates you. The large hotel chains, manufacturing, transportation, and similar companies are the way to do it, especially if your skills are less technical.

If you were to go to the US or Canada you would have to meet the criteria for nursing licensure as well as meet the requirements for a work visa or immigration. To get a Green Card so you can work in the US you are looking at about 6 year wait. Licensing can be a lengthy and expensive process as well.To qualify as an RN in Canada you need to have your BSN ( 4 year nursing degree) as well as meeting the requirements for immigration or a work visa.( but the wait is not as long as that for a Green Card) US and Canadian nurses are generalist trained so you would need theory and clinical hours in all areas including adult, peds, OB/maternity and mental health nursing. Using an agency does change/speed up any of this process. They cannot get you a license or work visa any faster than you can yourself. All you are paying them for is filling out papers that you can easily fill out yourself. Using an agency does not change the fact that you would need a nursing license and work visa/immigration before you could work there.Being a nurse does not make it any easier to get permission to work in another country.Especially right now with thousands of new grads struggling to find work in both countries.

You wouldn't usually have to redo your degree, you would have to write a licencing test out in the United States, and if you passed this, then you would be able to work as an RN in the states. Work Visas in the states, I will post a couple of links for you: http://www.expertlaw.com/library/immigration/work_visas.html http://www.usimmigrationsupport.org/

Puertoricans- Please list what you have done to make this country a better place
Puertoricans- Please list what you have done to make this country a better place?
I am so sick of people judging me because I am Puertorican! My family and I have made great contributions to our country (USA) and yet people look down on us because of our heritage, it is ridiculous. I have been married almost seven years, no children yet, graduated college with a registered nursing degree, have contributed many hours volunteering with Masonic Lodges and have provided free healthcare services to the public. My husband was in the Marine Corps for eight years served in Operation Iraqi Freedom II and is now a Deputy Sheriff. We have donated our time to many causes that we believe in. NO ONE in my family is on welfare! No one in my family has tons of kids! We do not crowd up 20 people in a Toyota! lol I just want to show people that there are many Puertoricans who love this country and are not all "ghetto".

Contact the offices of the Senators and Congressmen where you live. Ask what you should do. They have staff whose job it is to help with just these kind of situations.
2 :
one of you needs to marry her

He earned many lakhs due to that and presently in MI, USA. Now, i wish to start a company of my own in IT Sector. but family is denying to this also even now. What should i do? should i leave the idea. I am in 2nd yr of 3 yr nursing. pls help

Go do what you're good at and enjoy doing. If your family loves you they'll understand. . . someday.
2 :
if you are so close to finishing just finish... just so you don't leave it halfway done, but do it for your own sense of accomplishment, not for your family. Once you're done studying go do whatever you want!! If you're good at something and you like it then DO IT!! By all means make yourself happy because nobody else will do it for you.
3 :
I agree with above. It's good to keep your passion for something - always stay connected to it. Just because you're in school doesn't mean you have to disconnect from your interests like that. But I would finish my degree. Above is correct, there are other reasons to do it other than money. Finish what needs to be done, please yourself as well as your parents. Your parents would also know what's good for you just because they're older. Plus, it sounds like money is a main pull for your venture interest. Never make make-or-break decisions based on temporary money, especially in a field like IT. Finish your degree and you will have a failsafe in case things don't work out.

If you have a wish to do something, and you believe you can achieve it go ahead with it, it is your life you are living don't allow others to interfere in it or you may regret it for the rest of your life.
