How does a foreign Registered Nurse obtain a RN License in the USA?
American
Citizen has obtained a Bachelors Degree in Nursing in Greece. What does
she need to do to obtain an RN License in the USA

I
don't know the details, but the website should help.
I know that first you have to make sure the degree is accepted in the
US. Then you would need to take the NCLEX. If it's been a while since
you were in school, you may want to consider taking an NCLEX course to
refresh. Even if you've specialized, the test is over everything.
2 :
She
needs to contact the Board of Nursing in the state in which she wants
to work. They will tell her how to proceed. They will assess her
education and experience and decide if she is eligible to write the
NCLEX.If she passes she will be granted a nursing license for that
state.

How much are you willing to work? LPN's start anywhere from $10-$15 per hour depending upon the state you work in. RN's generally start out at between $15 and $25 per hour depending upon the state. Then you have the other careers nursing allow you to go into, careers with insurance companies ($60,000+), Drug/medical supply reps ($100,000+).

It can take anywhere between 2 and 4 years. You can get a degree from a technical college in 2, but it will look MUCH better if you attend an accredited university. The extra 2 years will get you a higher paying job and more respect during interviews. They are also more competitive. The entry level requirements also vary depending on the technical school and the university. The university I attend I believe the average is as high as a 3.6 and it's extremely competitive.

Things aren't much better over here. There is, however, a constant demand for nurses though. I still cannot believe people want to come here. "the more qualified a person you are, the better your odds such as a college degree, what kind of job you hold, all the kinds of things that would make you a more 'qualified citizen' for america. first off you would need a visa to visit, and then obtain a green card, lastly you can gain citizenship, are you hoping to become a permanent US resident/citizen?"

is it easy to practice as a registered nurse in california usa
is it easy to practice as a registered nurse in california usa?
i am a 31yr. old, single, female and i am a licensed registered nurse here in the Philippines. i recently passed the nclex-rn exam last september...i wonder how hard is it to practice as a registered nurse in california...what is your experience?

Quite a few hospitals in California and the Southwest are failing and closing as a result of the massive losses from illegal aliens, who simply refuse to pay their hospital bills. As a result, many hospitals will not sponsor foreign nurses since sponsorship costs too much & they have no money. While there is still some demand for nurses and other medical specialties at present, hiring is way down in every category throughout the US. Over 31 million Americans are now unemployed and desperate for work. You can apply for jobs and see if someone will hire you, but certainly don't hold out much hope at this time, especially if you need an employment visa. Do note that many of the foreign "registered nurses" (according to their own countries' standards) who come to the US end up working as nurses aides (even uncertified nurses aides), not RNs. The pay for such positions is not really something you can survive on in a high-tax, high-cost country like the US. Remember, total taxes now take over half your gross pay!
2 :
If you wanted to work in the US legally you would need a visa and due to retrogression you have a wait of several years ahead of you.

How can I work as a nurse in the USA without acquiring work experience in my country, Philippines
How can I work as a nurse in the USA without acquiring work experience in my country, Philippines?
I wonder if there's a way by which I can just pass the CGFNS and NCLEX and undergo my training in the USA prior to hiring without gaining work experience here in the Philippines. Thank you in advance for your helpful and informative response!

No .. there is no more of the schedule A nurse visa which ceased in 2006 and POTUS just wanting home bred nurses only A few nurses have got H1B visa but they were highly specialized and highly trained
2 :
You can work as a Female Caregiver or a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
3 :
You cannot! Visas for nurses ended several years ago, so with or without experience, with or without your BSN, you cannot get any employment visa to work in the US. BTW, only employers can obtain employment visas for their employees - individuals cannot apply for such visas. But since you are not eligible for any sort of employment visa, you cannot apply for any jobs in the US. If you became a legal permanent resident, then you try to pass NCLEX and get a nursing license. If you had LPR + state nursing license, then you could start looking for a job in the US. But if, say, you have a sibling who is a US citizen and meets all requirements to sponsor your immigration, it will take about 22-26 years after approval of the petition for you to get an immigration visa, and you must wait in the Philippines all that time for your visa. Waiting lists are extremely long from Mexico, Philippines, etc.
4 :
POEA has the policy that for you to work abroad, you must have work experience. Then employers require that you have at least 2 yrs exp if you apply for working visas. If immigrant visa, there's a retrogression right now.
5 :
You can apply for a nursing license in the state in which you wish to work. They will assess your education and decide if you are eligible to write the NCLEX. If you pass it you will be granted a nursing license. The bigger stumbling block will be getting a Green Card allowing you to work in the US. Currently it takes about 5 years due to retrogression.

The only way she can work in the U.S.is to have a contract with a specific comoany for a specific period of time...OR to apply to immigrate. You may want to explore getting a fiance visa for her. See sites below.
2 :
If she is your fiancee I think it's better to apply for Visa K1 http://russianwomenshome.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?board=6.0
3 :
I believe that before being able to participate in nurse programs she should pass several exams because medical systems in Ukraine and US are different. Here's information (in Russian) what exams she should pass, the information is for russian citizens but i don't think there's difference with ukranians in this process. http://www.medcectra.ru/faq.html A nurse should pass 3 exams: 1. TOEFL or IELTS (for the level of english) 2. Medical qualifying examination CGFNS 3. Medical examination NCLEX for obtaining the american license The whole immigration procedure after passing the exams takes app.6-12 months. Here is the information about this process in Ukraine (Kiev) http://free.prohosting.com/arrive/nurse.htm The exams are the same I don't think it's easy and in any way K-1 visa (fiancee visa) will allow you to be together sooner.
4 :
To reduce time and aggravation and, ultimately, cost, you should hire an immigration attorney. The one that I recommend (and am using) is Holmes and Lolly at http://www.fianceevisas.com

There are several ways to become a nurse in the US. Be aware though that MANY programs have waiting list at this time due to high demand and a low number of professors. An LPN takes less than 1 year of school usually. You will have restrictions as to what you can do because of the shorter schooling. Each state's board of nursing decides the limitations for LPN. Pay is usually less for LPNs also and advancement can be difficult. This kind of nurse is not as popular anymore. You can get your associates degree in nursing. This is what you are thinking about when you talk about community college degree. While this is a two-year program at most schools, it may take you longer than that if you need prerequisite classes such as math and English. The two-year part is strictly nursing classes. If you get your associates, and pass the NCLEX (exam after school), you become and RN. Check out this link for more info http://www.become-a-nurse-now.com/nursing-degree.html A BSN is a bachelor of science in nursing. It is a traditional 4-year degree. You also become and RN with a BSN. The difference between an associates and bachelors degree is the amount of room for advancement in the workplace you have, such as management positions. Some areas of the country pay nurses who have their BSN more. If you ever want to get your masters degree (become a midwife, nurse practitioner, professor etc), you will need a BSN. As far as how good a nurse is--a 2 year degree is fine for the education. I recommend getting a 2 year degree and then working on your BSN while you are working as a nurse for a lot of people. I have many friends who have done this and they are excellent nurses.

First you would need to go to nursing school. Then you would have to meet the requirements and pass the exam for each country.
2 :
There is a difference between India and USA nurse registration but to get admission you must need to read out their requirement of your qualification and other things. http://www.onlineedublog.com/career-nurse-practitioner/
3 :
I don't know about India or UAE, but for the USA the shortest amount of time it takes to become an RN is 2 years of tech college, and then you have to pass a national standardized test called the NCLEX. Most nurses in the US go to college for 4 years though, because having a bachelor's degree in the US makes it easier to get a job, and you can work wherever you want. Sometimes the US will take degrees from other places. For example, if you go to college in India to be a nurse, then you come to the US, if you take the NCLEX and pass in the US you can become a nurse here too (in most cases)..

Yes
2 :
If you really want to have a tattoo I suggest you get it done in a place that is easy to cover up in professional situations. Neck or face tattoos are not a good idea as it will undermine your professional look. Piercings are fine as long as they are tasteful and not too many. Lip and tongue rings are probably not a good idea either. At least piercings can be removed while tattoos are pretty permanent.
3 :
There are no laws or rules against having tattoos in healthcare, but you are likely to encounter subtle or hidden prejudice. Like it or not, tattoos scream alot of things at a patient when they see them. "Competent and well educated health provider" is not one of them. Yes, you can become a nurse but I strongly suggest that you keep your tattoos covered while on the job.
4 :
Will it affect your employment? What employment? You won't get a job with visible brandings.
5 :
our hospital require tattos be coverd while on duty.

What Dr Brrrr stated is spot-on. They are not specifically prohibited, but might send the wrong message to many patients (and potential employers). Tattoos really should not be visible while on the job, in my opinion. I am not a fan of multiple piercings (that are visible) either but that's just me.

im currently taking BS nursing and im thinking of having tattoo.. will it affect my employment as a nurse if i have tattoo and piercings?? or tattoo and piercing are TOTALLY not allowed for a nurse here in USA? i really dont know..

Yes

G'day, While not via the internet, tho, maybe, do check out Excelsior College, https://www.excelsior.edu/ You can do your degree via independent study. Depending on where you live, discussing your plans with a local nursing school about short cutting the time may work. Hey, drop http://www.nursingworld.org/ a note on your situation. They may be able to suggest something. Good Luck.

is it easy to get a job as a practical nurse, in the usa
is it easy to get a job as a practical nurse, in the usa?
is the demand for lpn growing in the usa? im going to school to be certified to be a practical nurse.. so me being a certified practical nurse will i get hired quick? is having a certificate for practicle nursing same as liscensed practicle nurse?

easy, hired quick. there is a large need for medical workers.
2 :
I think the two certificates are different. An LPN license takes about 2 years, typically. ...but yeah, there is a shortage of all positions in the medical field.
3 :
there is ahuge demand there is a lot of training involved.
4 :
a certificate for practical nurse is different from licensed practical because license one passed a qualifying examination to work as one . i do not have an idea what are your chamces of employment in the united states but here in middle east is so easy to land ajob but not that much high salary.
5 :
Depending on where you live depends on how easily you will find a job. The certificate/diploma earned by LPNs is "earned" after you've completed the program. The license allows you to practice nursing. Best of luck.

It's not up to you right now. Your prospective employer will do all the paperwork. Ask him. You won't get a Green Card, though. You will most likely get a B-1 visa. (Your qualifications don't mean anything to anyone except your future boss.) My ex-wife didn't qualify for a Green Card until she married me. She got into the United States in a similar way, although she isn't a nurse. Your nationality may be a problem, though. The United States does not have very good relations with your country. Seeing this, unless something changes between the two countries, it will be a long time before you can go.

Can a Canadian LPN work in the USA as a travel nurse? Or do you have to be an RN
I would like to work in the states as an LPN and so far I have only found information for RN's wanting to work in the USA. I would like to do it as an assignment with a travel nurse company. Any suggestions or websites would be greatly appreciated.

I believe if you have gotten your LPN degree in Canada, you may need to find out if you need to get one in the US. I don't believe they carry over from country to country. I used to work as a CNA and if I wanted to work as one in a different state, I had to get a CNA liscense in that state. I am not sure which website(s) to check out but I hope this was of some help.
2 :
In the U.S., being a LPN and a RN are not even close in comparison...it takes 3 to 4 years to become a RN here...and you have to pass "State Boards" to even get your license....I am not even sure what a travel nurse is...but as an RN, I have told you what I know...You can be a LPN at almost any place, but being Canadian you might have a problem with the licensing policy.. good luck

You could not transfer a pension but if you earn one in both Canada and the US, you could collect from both. It is called double dipping.

I found this at: http://www.learn4good.com/nursing/how_to_become_a_nurse.htm How to Become a Nurse: There are three ways to qualify as a Registered Nurse and apply for entry level nursing positions. They are as follows 1. Completing a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), 2. Completing an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or 3. Completing a Diploma Program in a hospital. Registered Nursing Programs: All registered nursing programs include classroom instruction and block experience in hospitals or clinics. Typical subjects studied by student nurses include: - Chemistry, Nutrition, Psychology, Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Behavioral Sciences, and Nursing. During the practical block of a nurse’s education, student nurses are supervised in a hospital department, and usually rotate around such departments as pediatrics, psychiatry, maternity, and surgery. Nurses with an Associate Degree can later choose to enter a Bachelor's program, this will allow for more career and educational opportunities in the future. Bachelor’s of Science Degrees in Nursing programs are also available for individuals with a primary degree in another field. Some universities offer transfer credits to students who may have previously completed some of the modules in another science degree program. Transfer credits are at the discretion of each university. Qualifying: In the past, most nurses qualified by completing diploma programs. Due to advances in Nursing practices, today most Nurses qualify by completing an associate degree or bachelor degree program. Once a student nurse obtains a degree or diploma, he/she must then obtain a nursing license by completing a national licensing examination, known as the NCLEX-RN. NCLEX-RN: This test is a computer-based test, designed to measure the skills and knowledge of potential nurses. This test can ask between 75 and 265 questions depending on the student nurses knowledge. The more questions he/she gets right the quicker he/she will move through the levels. If a question is answered wrong, the student nurse will stay at that level until he/she displays that they have a enough knowledge to move onto the next level, or the time runs out. Student Nurses should allow six hours to take the test. It will not take long if he/she is very knowledgeable on the subject matter. Some state laws have previously dictated that to work in a state other than where the Nurse qualified in, he/she would have to sit an additional license examination. Today many states have entered into an agreement known as The Nurse Licensure Compact Agreement. This agreement allows nurses who are licensed by one member state to practice in another member state without obtaining any additional license. I'm a medical doctor in latin america, but I really want to become nurse in the USA and work. I wonder if somebody knows about the steps that I have to do? I will become a legal resident in the USA soon. Therefore inmigration is not something that I have to worry about. I would rather a link or website than a motivation.

get a green card is the first step, or student visa if you want to learn how to become a nurse. or a working visa. But seriously, we have way to many doctors. Of course, who says there's a limit?
2 :
Apply, visit, see if you like it, and go through the proper legal process/channels if you wish to stay... and you will be welcome.
3 :
You would have to contact a state board of nursing. In order to work as a nurse you need: 1)graduation from an accredited school of nursing (two degrees are quite often required depending upon the state: science and nursing) 2)passing a stringent background check 3)passing the state board Being a doctor doesn't qualify you to work as a nurse. Nurses have far different skills than a doctor does as they perform a different duty. Yes - you will have it easier going to nursing school as you already know your diseases - however, you still will have to learn the nursing skills that doctors are never taught in medical school. A doctor may have difficulties working as a nurse due to differing attitudes towards patients. Doctors normally diagnose and prescribe medications - then walk off. Nurses deal with tons of emotional issues, clean diapers, translate what doctors said into plain language for the patients. You need to ask yourself some questions - can you change from prescribing medications to be taken during the night to changing an altzheimer patients diapers, watching a 1/2 dozen patients all night long - with an average of 2-3 of them very capable of self harm due to dimished capacities....doing stuff to themselves like yanking out catheters, or trying to commit suicide? Doctors don't do these things - nurses do it every single shift - and nurses get talked down to by doctors, and get blasted by patients families when they are upset due to anger (with god, medical system, family members, etc) - and must smile while and be pleasant regardless of how they are treated... If I havent discouraged you - good luck with your endeavors!

I looked at something like this a couple years ago. A friend of mine from Guatemala was going to move to USA and he's a doctor. He would have had to take a competency test to be licensed in USA. I remember he would probably have had to study for 6 months (estimate) in order to have a good chance at passing the test. He stayed in Guatemala with a practice there.

professional licencing [includes nurses] in US is run by the individual states. each state has their requirements avail on the internet. google will find the entry websites for you for any state you're interested in. the good news is that many US states have a shortage of nurses. That means there is a fair chance of getting a work visa -- the the US government's website for details. I would not be surprised to discover that a US employer has to apply for the visa on your behalf. There is an employer certification required saying that they're tried and failed to full their position with a US citizen. Which may mean that you need to find a US employer as the first step. [Hint: major hospitals in large cities are more likely to know how to navigate the paperwork to facilitate your work visa and licence. Hospitals in those cities with many German tourists and/or many German business travelers may need your German language skills which they'll likely be unable to find in the US labor market.] What kind of nursing do you wish to do? They aren't banned. If she at least an RN or even better has additional qualifications she can try to find an employer willing to sponsor her for an H1B. http://www.murthy.com/h1bnurse.html Immigrating illegally might get her physically into the US, but she is not going to get work as a nurse in a hospital as an illegal immigrant.

Honestly, it's too easy. We leave holes in the system so people from foreign country can cheat and get an easy in. It depends on how you look at the system. In California, the Visa is taken about by foreignors that aren't even qualified and should be deported because they're not even working as a Nurse. It clogs up our system.
2 :
May be tougher these days. From what I've been reading, nurses are being laid off in parts of the country.
3 :
Due to retrogression you are looking at a wait of several years.
4 :
First, you must have US Nursing License, by passing NCLEX. http://www.ihrcanada.com/american/USNusringLicense.htm https://www.ncsbn.org/nclex.htm Then you apply jobs at US hospitals who is willing to file Petition for your H1C Temporary Workers visa for medical field. http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1271.html
5 :
First you have to take the NCLEX-RN test, if you that. You would be able to go into a Hospital and affor for a job. They usually make all the papers to get you a visa (green card) for 3 years. But NCLEX is very difficut to pass. If you are Mexican, it will be easier, because Mexico have the TLC (tratado de libre comercio)

as you say you are a Canadian nurse.so first you have to contact the nursing board in which state you want to work as a nurse.may be your state wants CGFNS certificate.for become a nurse in USA you must pass nclex to get licence of the state.
2 :
What you should do is figure out which state you plan to move to. Some states might have different requirements. Then look at the website for that state (ends in .gov) and then look up their medical board and information about licensing as a nurse in that state. Contact that department via phone or email if you cant find all the information you need on their website.

A friend of mine is looking to become a nurse in the USA, preferably in Philadelphia. However, we do not even know where to begin. Any information will be very helpful. Also, a cheaper school in Philadelphia for nursing.

if she has credentials from another country, she will need to inquire with the licensing board to see if her foreign country credentials will pass in the state ---you say Philadelphia, so you need to find our from Penn.

Can people with nursing qualification trained in Viet Nam work as a nurse in USA
Can people with nursing qualification trained in Viet Nam work as a nurse in USA?
or they must be trained more or do a nursing course again in USA so that they can work as a nurse in USA? thanks

You would have to take the board certification exam and if you failed that you would have to seek further education/training from an accredited college.
2 :
Most, if not all, states will accept a valid nursing license earned in Viet Nam as evidence of your qualifications and will grant you a reciprocal license. All employers will require a probationary period wherein you'll be expected to learn the peculiarities of doing the job their way. Fortunately, you'll be paid while you go through that probationary period. Welcome to the USA!
3 :
You have to apply for a license in the state in which you wish to work. They will evaluate your education and you will be required to write and pass the NCLEX exam. Also you will have to deal with retrogression, which will mean several years wait to get a visa to come to the US to work.

How does a foreign nurse practice in the USA
How does a foreign nurse practice in the USA?
I am now married to a woman from China; she is a nurse. I am currently waiting for the visa to process so that she can come over here. Meanwhile, I would like to acquire some information on how she can practice nursing in the USA. How does a foreign nurse obtain the necessary requirements to practice nursing in America? And, what are those requirements?

she has to sit the state boards for which ever state you live in, she also MUST be able to speak english flawlessly and be able to prove this, also her original lic. must be able to be verified.
2 :
Her original education would have to be equivalent to a US one. She needs a verified and translated transcript, then she would need to pass an English fluency exam and then the state nursing exam. Of course she would have to have a visa that allows her to work in the first place.

I was trained as a nurse for two years and I got a 6 years experience practicing nursing. I am in USA with a tourist visa to visit my fiancee and we are planning to live here. After I was changed my status to a permanent resident, how could be the process to work here as a nurse?

I wouls recommend you to try to apply for a nurse job online, there are tens of job search engines online, once someone likes your profile and talks to you more, they will involve appropriate legal and immigration people since they are more likely to have experience in this matter than a foreign individual. Lucky for you, you are not the first nurse doing this, start with a good cv, good luck

If you do nursing in the remote regions of northern Australia (eg north western Australia, Northern Territory) you will earn a lot of money. Nurses are always in demand in these parts of the country, especially for remote indigenous communities. Plus, the culture is fascinating and the weather is always warm.

How can you get an accounting-related job even though you have not worked in the field for a long time
How can you get an accounting-related job even though you have not worked in the field for a long time?
Ok, so here's the deal. I have an Accounting Degree in the Philippines and have worked there as a Junior Accountant for over 2 years. I quit the job (2007) prior to coming here to USA with my husband. I spent almost 6 months doing job hunting. I did monster, career-builder & other sites. Unfortunately still wasn't able to land one. Thus, decided for now to work as a part time in retail just to have an extra pocket money for I also have a son to nurse with. I was wondering what do I needed to do in order to get my feet in the door? Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Is a good decision to study in Philippines
Is a good decision to study in Philippines?
Im a sophomore High school student in California with a 3.9 gpa at the moment. I got a choice for college, go to UC Davis or go to University of Santo Tomas in Philippines. I want to go to UC Davis but my problem is that I will get a huge debt. What I want is small debt. My mom is a nurse and my dad works in a car manufacturing and doesnt get paid as much as my mom. and we have a lot of stuff to pay. (house, car, etc.) My parents want me to go to philippines cause it's much cheaper. But I want a world class university like UC Davis. My plan for college is to get a degree in Biology and then go to a med school for a doctorate degree. If i will study in Philippines, i will have to go to med school in there as well. If here, I would go to University of California San Francisco. Eventually in the future i would like to have a job here in USA. So is it a good decision to study in Philippines instead in UC Davis?

You need to study here. A medical degree from the Phillipines will require more work here which will end up costing you more money. Have you applied for a scholarship at UC Davis? If your parents do not make that much you will get one.

Please!!! My mother is ruining my life
Please!!! My mother is ruining my life!!!!?
I know this is long but i would really like some advise I am a 21 year old female...I am studying to become a nurse and I live with my mom who just moved to the USA until I graduate and can move on. I work part time and I honor my bills in the house while going to school. But she won't allow my boyfriend of 14 months to come over. He recently moved upstate and we decided to keep things going...he drives 3.5 hrs one way to see me and has to spend a lot of money for hotels etc. He was in town last wknd to see his family and needed a pl. to crash (get some rest) before his long drive back home. I told him to come over and we hung out cooked etc. My mom who was at work sent me racing txts asking him to leave or she will come home and it won't be nice. She also said "How Dare you?" and to keep my relationship out of her house. My bf said he will be getting out of here (my home) and he left. I cried so bad because although he wouldn't leave me I am afraid...no one deserves to be treated that way.His family is so genuine and welcoming to me.His mom loves me and we talk every time he calls her and she even asks how my mom is doing. My bf is much older than I am and he is an engineer and never pressures me into anything...until I am at least finished with my 1st degree. I am so frustrated my mom is not the kind of person you can reason with...she either hangs up the phone, ignores me or make ref. to how much I hurt her and all she has done for me (I have no clue what I did...I am a good student and I never talk back or disrespect her)...she is very selfish. He got my family gifts for christmas, sends me roses, talks with my dad and he we are really trying but I am afraid she is gonna make us break up or make him leave. i was thinking about writing her a letter tell her exactly how i feel and about her attitude. what you think? Please Sincere answers only... Frank...he does pay for our hotel...always!!! However he was out with his family and was jus tired...they had to check out the hotel at 11 and he was so close by he wanted to see me before he went back up!!!

this is normal for parents, especially for a mom... maybe she's had some bad experience with an ex boyfriend... you and me on the same boat.. my dad's ok with me and my girl at home, alone or not.. while my mom doesn't.. if she had to come over, mom's on us everytime... - parents can be a pain sometimes.. do what i do.. try to understand her no matter how hard that is...
2 :
In my experience, narcissists are extremely resistant to any hint that they should change. It is possible that she may respond. I'd make sure the letter isn't venting (or write another letter that you never send to vent). Focus on how you care about her as your mother and want her to be part of your life and want to find out how she can get to know the man who may one day be the father of her grandchildren. She may stick to the "no living in sin in my house", in which case you might want to tell your boyfriend that you would rather see him in a motel than get roses.
3 :
Ermm, but you're 21. Aren't you a little old to be bossed around by your mom? D:
4 :
Personally... I'd move out at the earliest opportunity. Avoid moving in with your boyfriend, as A) that would only add fuel to the fire, and B) if it ends up no working out because you moved in together too soon, your only option is to go back to you mother. Start saving a little bit each month to put towards an apartment, and maybe talk to some of your friends and see if they're interested in being roommates. You might find that once you're away from you mother your relationship with her actually improves.

What do I need to do to prepare myself for a move and extended stay in the Philippines
What do I need to do to prepare myself for a move and extended stay in the Philippines?
Hi, as of now, I am studying to become a chemical engineer, and I will have my degree in 3 years. Recently, I met a wonderful Filipina (in the States) and things are going great. However, when she moved back to the Philippines, she triggered a 10-year bar from the USA. We have overturned every stone to find a way for her to come back, but that route is closed for now. Rules are rules I suppose. So the only option for us, is for me to come to her and wait out the 10 years together. Once we finish the 10 years, we plan to move back to the United States. I am currently 24 years old, so by the time I get there, I will be 27 or 28. I am in deeply in love with her, but I still plan to finish my schooling. I have done a decent amount of research and have come to realize that; it is hard enough for Filipinos there to get a job, much less an immigrant, and worse than that - an uneducated immigrant. I need my degree. That much I am well aware. I plan to visit the Philippines on an extended stay (3 - 4 months) to get a feel for the culture, atmosphere, and general way of life. What should be my goals for my extended stay? What do I need to do there to understand what life will be like? As well as making my transition there easier? I intend to move in the province of Pampanga, or at least close to that area. I am wondering, what do I need to do to prepare myself and find a means of supporting me and her. She is a nurse - one of many, many nurses. In fact, there are so many nurses at the moment, that some of them are having to volunteer long before they actually get paid for doing the job. And this ties back into me getting my degree... again. I appreciate all the advice I can get from you guys. But I need some thought-provoking advice. I am looking for advice concerning how to quickly land a job. What should I look out for when finding a place for me and her to live? I know the southern area of the Philippines do not take kindly to anyone, but where else there is unsafe for an American. Better yet, where is the best place for my and her safety? I know her information and experience in the country will be priceless, but I need to have a fundamental understanding of what I am walking into. Also, is it likely, or even possible, to find a company here that will send me there? For example, getting hired by an electronic company here and the US, and stationing myself at one of their manufacturing plants there. If there is such a possibility, what do I need to do to find it? I plan to get internships during my summer semesters to the Philippines, if it is possible. Like I said, I love the girl more than anything, but I am trying to stay as level headed as possible. I still need to be a great provider, and not go into this blind. We are spending 3 years or each others lives doing this, so I don’t need to show up at the airport as an idiot, lol. Any wisdom and words of foresight will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! To Justin K.: Natural diasasters are of no concern to me... the USA has hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and many more as well. The reason I said 'around that area', is because her family lives there, and I wish to make a modest judgement call between how far away we live from her family and our jobs. To kentnooo: Thank you so much for the suggestion, but apparently, if you are barred from the US, you are also barred from North America more or less. We have thought of that, but we are thinking maybe New Zealand or such. But I in order for her to go anywhere like that, she would have to land a job first, from what I understand. Thanks again for the idea.

Try to understand how ridiculously hot it is there... every... day. I know you won't believe me if I just tell you it's hot (even though I've been there), so just look at the stats. The dew point is over 75 just about every day. The all-time record low for Manila (day and night, any season) is like 57 degrees. Or 54... I forget. And I haven't mentioned the typhoons, earthquakes, and volcanos. Honestly, I think you're lying to us. I know what's in Pampanga. And I know you would move in with this girl, so why tell us "or at least close to that area"? Have a nice vacation.

I must commend you on the tremendous amountof insight you have into the Filipino condition and realities. However, if you've never been to a third world country, no amount of research and knowledge as you have done will prepare you for what you will feel and think when you get off that plane; you may love it as a few do and you may not be able to wait to get the hell out of there. Yes, it is impossible to find decent paying work there for an "uneducated" foreigner. It may be ever so slightly easier to find work in the USA that would have you stationed in the Philippines, but those are always management positions that require tangible experience to boot. As another has said, the biggest detriment to your situation is the "10 year bar" that presumedly USCIS has imposed on your GF, presumedly again for some sort of immigration problem such as overstaying et al. I have to let you know that the US embassy considers the 10 year period as a matter of "guidance" only for determining if she would become re-eligible for another visa to the US--and not a guarantee by any means. In all practical terms, a bar of any sort is permanent. I know of no one barred from entry to the US who regained the right to revisit the country. At this point and to reinforce one of your ideas, it would be best for you two to seek a life in a third country such as NZ as you mentioned or perhaps Australia, Singapore etc. Canada and the UK may be good candidates as well but unfortunately for you, I believe they closely share immigration data with the US and her bar may show during a visa application check. Regardless, good luck and I hope you two find an acceptable solution.

Im backed against a wall
Im backed against a wall..?
Im 25, I have a good job in Local Governement in the UK, but I dont have a degree. All my friends are in the same boat, we all work for great employers, who pay us a good salary, we are successful, we have our own flats, we have cars, and I have never been so Bored with my life. I am so tired of the UK, its weather, its people, everything. I have wanted to emmigrate to US, or Austrailia for a while now, and although our three countries are the closest in terms of culture, I have found out it is virtually impossible for me to be able to emmigrate. Friends and Family say at 25 that i should just settle down, start a family, buy a house... I feel like I cant breathe and that if I dont make the move to the USA now I will never live out my dreams, and then after seriously looking into it, I am told it is virtually impossible for british to obtain work permits, unless they are doctors/nurses etc.. I feel frustrated, and defeated, any advice on how the british move to US greatly appreciated

I don't see why you can't...? Go to an emmigration web site and gather the info you need.....you'll probably get a green card first then you'll need to apply for citizenship. It takes a few years but it CAN be done....

It is more frustrating here! We have the worst illegal immigration CRISIS IN HISTORY. Our schools and hospitals have gone down the tubes. We are fighting dirty politicians tooth and nail. I would stay were you are it can't be as bad as it is here.

You are a fine example of how illegal immigration adversely affects other people in the world who wish to immigrate to America. Illegal immigration is a loose/loose situation. .
5 :
Go first to Canada. It is easier to enter the US from Canada than from England. The laws are different. If know Brits that have done that without a problem. Once you are in Canada take what ever job is available until you are established. That is the real problem. Are you willing to give up your comfortable life style to start over at a scrappy bottom and work your way up again?
6 :
If you have the money, go to America on holiday to make sure you still want to immigrate. While you are here, you can visit the immigration office and get good information. It would help to have a Sponsor.

If you were to go back to school and get a degree in nursing or teaching, you could find a job in the US. We don't have enough nurses or teachers. IN Utah they are hiring Mexican teachers and my state, SC, has a program that allows teachers from other countries to work in SC schools. Another option would be to marry an American citizen. Good luck!

You may not want - at this time - to go back to school, but it may be a way to get you into the country. Check into student visas.

you're right. Nobody gets a good job without at least 1 college degree. The student visa may be a good idea, though. Have you considered Canada?

I'm sorry I don't have a practical solution to your problem, but I think that what your friends and family are advising you to do is going to make things even WORSE for you. Listen to your heart and your head, NOT to people who apparently don't have a CLUE as to what your thinking, feeling, and going through. Best of luck with whatever you end up doing, and hopefully some of your dreams WILL come true!
5 :
go ahead if you are ready for a change. ask friends, family, get legal advice and stuff for migrating. and before you move, make sure you secured a job there. and in the mean time, you can take courses. there are many part time courses available for working adults and it will be able to help you.

You really won't need a car to get around London. There's underground tubes which seem to come every 10 minutes which go all over London.

well.. its pretty much like any other country's. we have bad weather though lol. yeah london is accessible (probably better to get trains into london) and don't go near any places that look dodgy because london has high knife and gun crimes but aslong as you don't go into the dodgy areas of london it should be ok. we have tube stations, buses, cars and taxis. you will have to get an oyster card for tube stations(i think). that is just like a passport but on trains. life is as good as you make it here - alot of good people in london which will make you feel welcome if you come over here. right now its 11:15 pm so the times obviously different here in england but it should take that long to get used to. hope you enjoy london if you decide to come :)

HELP! I need some advice: Is community college my only option
HELP! I need some advice: Is community college my only option?!?
I am going to be a junior in high school this fall. I have already taken several AP classes, have taken the PSAT (and got an excellent score), and have an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and weighted GPA of 4.4. My family is really, really poor. My dad never went to college, and he has a degenerate back problem. A few years ago my dad got back surgery, and the surgeon put the screws in the wrong place irrevocably messing up my dad's back. So now he is on disability (which is barely enough for a family of four to survive on). My mom is from Asia, and she has a green card. She went to college, but unfortunately her degree isn't valid in the USA. For a while she was working at a factory, but she was laid off. So now she is unemployed. My parents have always pushed me to do well in school so that I won't have to be poor for the rest of my life. The problem is, I don't think I will even be able to afford college! I have always assumed I would get a full ride scholarship until my school record got completely screwed over last year. We moved to a different place, and my parents enrolled into an online school late. (I've gone to public school all my life, but they enrolled me in an online school for some really stupid reasons.) The administration made me take mostly BASIC classes! Does that make sense?! It's an online school for God's sake!! So now, I have a great GPA, but the colleges will look at my record and see that I took all these fundamental classes! My question is: If I take a bunch of AP classes the next two years, maintain a great average, and get involved in extracurricular activities, is it still possible that I could get a great scholarship from a great school? Another problem is that my parent's AREN'T EVEN SAVING FOR MY COLLEGE!!! They just want me to go to a community college for 2 years and become a nurse or something.....But I want to go to a private liberal arts college and major in psychology to become a psychologist! Is it possible for me to afford to go to a private college??? This has been my dream for as long as I can remember! Please help me!! Thanks in advance, guys. Actually, my "dream college" is New York University. I know it's extremely expensive, and that their financial aid is atrocious, but is there ANY way at all for me to be able to afford to go there? Am I overlooking some grant or scholarship??

yea your gpa is amazing. You can prob get a full scholarship somewhere. don't worry your fine. unlike me i'm about to be a junior and i have a 2.74 unweighted GPA. except my family is probably a lot better off than yours. anyway don't worry your fine, just study REALLY hard and you'll get a good scholarship.
2 :
I know your pain. My mom is single and disabled so I know how it is to live off of only disability. My dad had told me he isn't helping me out at all for college when he has a a decent job and can. But whatever. You're GPA is the major thing. I don't think they look too much at the classes you are taking. Don't worry about that at all. Making sure you take the SAT/ACT. Those scores matter A LOT dealing with scholarships. More than what classes you are taking or extra activities. As long as you have a decent score on that you'll get some type of scholarship. And don't forget about FASFA. I got 5500$ from it which helped me out tons. And going to a community college isn't that bad. Its a great to go to there and get your basics, then you can transfer to a university. Good luck. :)

If you do the things that you plan to do (involvement in extracurricular activities, earning good grades, and taking some AP classes) then you will have a good chance of getting into NYU. If you can have at least one sport in those extracurricular activities, some volunteer work (e.g. local river cleanups, community fundraisers, 'Walk for Hunger', community service, etc.), and/or at least one school club or group then you will be fine. For a club, I recommend that you try to be part of your school's National Honor Society since your GPA is high and you have a willingness to excel. National Honor Societies host many volunteering events which can save you from searching for volunteer work around your local community. On behalf of your financial worries, you can also apply for private scholarships including any offered by your school, clubs in your school, local companies and clubs, local MLB, NFL, NBA, MLS, and/or NHL team, companies offering scholarships online (e.g. Coca-Cola, Wal-Mart, etc.), and rich celebrities (e.g. Bill Gates offering the Gates Millennium scholarship). Also do not forget to apply for financial aid (FAFSA) during your senior year; your school will very, very likely start reminding the seniors to do this during the winter. You do not have to take many AP classes if you think it will be too much stress. It can be very time consuming and it can cause health problems such as bad sleeping habits, eye strain, and stress. But you should still take some AP classes. I took a total of 7 AP classes during my junior and senior year and if i would have just dropped one of the classes i would have been stress-free. So ask other students how a certain AP class is or how a certain AP teacher is. Since you are Asian, poor, and have good grades you will get very good financial aid from your school. So do not stress yourself too much and just do really good in school. Aside from applying for financial aid (FAFSA), applying for private scholarships, taking AP classes, and doing extracurricular activities will help you out a lot. But remember that you do not have to stress yourself too much. Also community college is not a bad option if for any circumstances you have bad financial aid. If you go to the community college just make sure that the credits for the classes you will take are capable of transferring into NYU. Since you want to major in psychology make sure that the community college offers it and take the classes. I doubt that you will get bad financial aid, however. When you apply for college apply for a couple. Make sure you apply for NYU and the community college as well. Also have more schools in thought because life isn't always as planned.
